脳は前大脳(protocerebrum），中大脳(deutocerebrum)，後大脳(tritocerebrum)の3領域からなる．前大脳の両端には視葉がある．視葉は３または4個の神経叢からなる．前大脳中央部にはキノコ体(mushroom body)といわれるいっつの神経叢がある．さらに，キノコ体にはさまれた前大脳中央部には，対をなさない神経叢である前大脳橋や中心体があり，それらは合わせて，中心複合体といわれる．こららの神経叢のわまりには，前大脳側葉，側副葉，後傾斜などの非密集神経叢がある．
